Yaoziyu

English: Sparrow hawk valley

Yaoziyu is the section of wall between Zhuangdaokou and Xishuiyu and extending north to Erdaoguan. It's most common to walk this section as an extension of walking from Huanghuacheng to Zhuangdaokou, with the ultimate destination of Xishuiyu.

The Yaoziyu Great Wall does not have many really steep spots, so it's a relatively easy hike with outstanding views. There is one area where the wall's upper surfaces are very deteriorated, and so you are walking along a sharp and unprotected ridge that you would not want to fall off of on either side. Later on, you will reach a tower that does not have a door in line with the Great Wall. Instead, you must climb out over the edge of the wall in order to reach the doorway and gain entrance to the tower and continue along the wall.

About halfway to Xishuiyu, you will see an older, stone wall leading north (to the right) and towards Yaoziyubao and Erdaoguan.

Yaoziyu Great Wall

Location summary: Yaoziyu is about 57 kilometers (35 miles) north of downtown Beijing. It is about 1.2 kilometers (0.7 miles) west of Zhuangdaokou and about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) northeast of Xishuiyu. The path of the Great Wall from Yaoziyu to Xishuiyu is about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles).

Driving directions: From the Huairou urban area, take S308 road west for about 3.3 kilometers (2 miles) to Chawu. Turn right to stay on S308 and drive 4.2 kilometers (2.6 miles) to Qizhuangcun. Turn left to stay on S308 and drive for 17.6 kilometers (10.9 miles). S308 turns left but you will continue straight onto S213. Drive north for about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to Erdaoguan.
