Xuanbi

English: Overhanging (or cliff) Great Wall

Xuanbi is commonly known as the Overhanging Great Wall. It was originally built in 1539. The lower part of the wall is lost and what remains is about 0.7 kilometers (0.5 miles) which were rebuilt in 1987. The wall is completely new now and can only serve to show the original location of the Ming wall.

Xuanbi may not be authentic but it's still worth visiting if you are in Jiayuguan. It's an interesting wall in its own right and it provides excellent views of the Jiayuguan area.

Location summary: Xuanbi is about 1554 kilometers (965 miles) west of downtown Beijing. It is about 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) northwest of Jiayuguan Fortress. The path of the Great Wall from Xuanbi to Jiayuguan is only slightly longer.

Driving directions: From Jiayuguan's north first ring road, drive northwest for 5.2 kilometers (3.2 miles) to Xuanbi.
